For all our Southshore customers we have moved in to the French Quarter. We are located at 518 Chartres Street. It's the old Feet First location across from the Omni Royal. It's gotten a make-over and we are almost ready to open. Please be patient as we finish unpacking and add a few more UAL touches. You can call us at 504-301-4437 to check on the opening date. Are You Open Yet?

You've called,driven by and even dreampt about it. It's finally here!!! After 7 months of blood, sweat and tears UAL is open.
The phone has rung off the hook and the parking lot is full of UAL devotees that have long awaited their fashion fix and we are more than happy to be there for you. We've missed all of you and are very excited to start over in Covington.

If you need directions from the southshore take the Causeway and when you get off the bridge go straight. Do not take the Mandeville/190 exit. Keep driving straight into Covington and you'll see a movie theater on the left, drive passed Walmart, Home Depot and Chick fillet on the right...almost there. We are across the street from Auto Zone and we have tall, white UAL letters.

Our store hours are Mon-Sat 10-8 and Sun 12-6. You can call us at 985-871-0749.

It's been so exciting to run in to UAL customers everywhere I go. Our Covington store still has a little more construction but will look amazing. In case you haven't seen it or wonder where it is located...from the southshore take Causeway and when you get off the bridge just go straight. You'll pass the theater, Walmart, Chick Fillet and we are on the left at 2033 Hwy 190 across from Auto Zone.

And just to let you know we haven't forgotten about our loyal southshore customers. You'll be able to shop with us at 518 Chartres. It's the old Feet First location. There is no opening date at the moment but we'll keep you posted.

To all our fashionista UAL followers...we will be re-opening in Covington on 190 in spring 2006! It's only 30 minutes from our Metairie location and we are very exited. It's a brand new location and as in the past we will be filling it up with only to die for fashion. I've been running into UAL customers everywhere and I can't wait to see you guys soon and share hurricane stories.

Katrina...Makeover 101

I haven't been able to post for several weeks. First and formost, I'd like to take this opportunity to offer heartfelt empathy to everyone affected by Katrina. We are all in a state of transition and are seeking to rebuild are personal and business lives. When I last posted I expected, as in the past, to be away for a couple of days then return to the life I once knew. Within a few short hours that changed. The store that once exuded verve is now filled with mold and strewn debris. I've included some pics of the store after the storm. To all of our loyal customers I'm not sure when or if there will be a grand re-opening but we'll keep you posted. Please leave comments if you want to get in touch with us.

Fashion State of Emergency

Hurricane season in the Big Easy is usually pretty familiar. You pack a few hot outfits, drive to Houston and shop for more hot outfits. Katrine is a little different. As I packed yesterday I found myself more focused on taking care of our business and staff that I didn't pack to not return to my favorite Prada shoes and Jimmy Choo boots. In fact I really didn't stop and dress to travel...let's put it this way - by the time I got to work I was sporting a fabulous black lace Loy and Ford tank with dark Serfontaine jeans cuffed to mid calf with 4" studded Prada wedges. I walked into the store, looked at the girls then looked at myself in the mirror. Leave it to me to make a fashion statement during a state of emergency without planning it.

Speaking of state of emergency...while watching the weather chanel one our fashion news guru's made a list of what to bring with you. In the middle of the statement was none other than a raincoat. What I'd like to know is who will be the brave soul to sport the raincoat during a catagory 5 hurricane? Will there be a fashion show between road advisories and the local weather? Maybe I should have brought my rainboots just in case.

I certainly don't want to make light of a very grave situation. We are all going to have a long storm ahead of us. Hopefully, as we creep in traffic, gas up our cars and board up our houses we can be thankful that there won't be any tickets given out by the fashion police.

Ageless Fashion

On a recent night out with the girls I realized something. Or maybe not. Or...o.k. I'll get to the point. Does fashion actually have an age? If you're fifty and wear a size 4 can you get away with wearing Jessica Simpsons new found fashion statement - that being Daisy Dukes? Why is it when you're fifteen you use fashion to look older? And why is it that mags put women into catagories for age appropriate fashion? Shouldn't it be about how you feel about yourself?

I had to ask because while walking with the girls we conjured up a few whistles, comments, and even a "please join our barbeque" party. Without naming names and downloading copies of our drivers licenses we are all different ages. If you can't tell the difference neither can the fashion police.

Bootyliscious West Coast Style

The last time I posted I had rounded up a few booty pics from NYC. This last weekend I was in San Fran and ventured out to check out the fashion scene with a new found friend. First of all, can we discuss how fashion is affected or not by the new Dove ads? Don't pretend you haven't noticed. They are absolutely everywhere. Bus stations, mags, billboards... Perhaps you are the ad. Perhaps you don't eat to NOT be the ad. Does it really matter if you can barely fit into a designer jean?

I often have discussions with up and coming and high profile designers and question their reasoning for the 0-8 size scale. In most cases the answer is "that's what the buyers want to order". So, what about the customer? My customers come into our stores everyday and try on hundreds of jeans in all sizes, and what I've learned is there is no one booty alike. They come in all shapes and sizes. I love the Dove ads because the airbrushed, double shot espresso lovin models that are usually featured aren't what physically walks in the door to shop everyday. Don't get me wrong. There are people who can wear a size 0, but trust me when I say they have insecurities about what their booty's look like just like someone that wears a size 14.

Once we learn to accept our size and love ourselves for that "shake what your mama gave you" then maybe we'll accept the Dove ads of the world for what they really are...us.

What is your best tip for looking hot in your favorite jean? I'm petite with a long inseam so I've learned that low rise jeans with a slight boot cut make me look ( or so I think) a little taller. My favorite jean line is Serfontaine and Rock and Republic.

Booty Call...Should I Answer?

Seriously...should I? Should I give in to the tempation that everytime I pass a mirror I have to turn my head ever so slightly to make sure the same booty that poured in to the Serfontaine jean in the morning was still able to pass the "other woman test."
You know what I mean. All women do it. I actually had to sit here and ask myself...did my mother teach me to notice every womans booty that I come across during the day along with how to tie my shoe. It could be walking down a sidewalk, in an elevator, grocery store. The point is as a woman we like to make sure ours is better, rounder, firmer, younger...you know what I mean. That's the whole point in buying a jean. You torture yourself in the fitting room of your favorite boutique by trying on 30 pairs of jeans only to look at your booty 145 times. If the booty doesn't look perfect the sales associate won't be ringing up that $230 sale. What happened to good ole shoe shopping? People vs. The Economist...

The first time I remember flying I was three. My parents never had the opportunity to go on a honeymoon until then and lucky for me I got to go. I'll never forget peering out the window and seeing the ocean from miles high and wishing I could grab the clouds and eat them. My whole life I imagined my life as it is now. Waking in the morning and going to work only to turn around, pack and fly to see a deal. Gone are the fun days of travel. Last month I flew eight times only to waste ten hours in the airport, and don't even get me started about airport security. It's hard for a type A, multitasker to be confined to one place for more than five minutes. Don't get me wrong. It's a great time to read and since I'm in the fashion industry I read every last magazine. My favorites are Vanity Fair, Lucky, Teen People, Teen Vogue and if you can believe it The Economist. It's fun to sit next to people on the plane and watch them pretend not to be perplexed after I read People and then pull out The Economist. O.K. I can't leave airport security alone. Please explain to me why every airport has their own set of rules? Take off your shoes, don't take off your shoes, put everything in the grey tray, lay it flat on the belt, hold on to your boarding pass but noone looks at it - or if you're halfway cute they'll look at you and nod - does that count as profiling? How about keys? Every time I go to JFK my keys are confiscated. Why? They fold inside and when you press the button it flies out like a knife. ( God help me to remember to leave the keys out when I fly to New York this weekend. ) I guess I just needed to take a moment and vent because I will live in airports for the next month. My best advise to those wishing to become world travelers...make a lot of money and buy a jet. Until then it's my Mac, Razr and how can I forget my IPod!! What's bad?

TIME OUT...

Retail is a war. After fighting off shoplifters, unloading boxes, hanging, sensoring and pricing new merchandise I decided to take out our keyholders to a night on the town. One great thing about New Orleans is the food. I often have to remind designers everyone doesn't wear a size 0. Southern girls like to eat. And that's exactly what we did. We went to Le Petite Grocery and ordered: chicken, grouper, shrimp, exotic mushrooms, chilled soup, creme broulee and chocolate mousse. Yum!!! Thanks for all the hard work girls.

Born on the 4th of July...

Besides this being my college roommates birthday this is our first blog. Today won't take you inside a fashion designers penthouse or even trecking through LAX with an 80pd. suitcase full of clothing and accessories, but it will give you a glimpse of our store United Apparel Liquidators. Located in Metairie, Louisiana...yes...people in Metairie love fashion too...we have been in business for 25yrs. One of my favorite designers is Loy & Ford. They have this innate way of combining graphic intellect with wearabilty. That's important when you travel as much as we do and still need to look like a fashion diva straight from a 6am flight to LAX. More about up and coming and high profile designers in the near future.
